$180 for a band aid and other reasons why I need your advice on food processors...

I know this is not a food processor, but while we are on the subject of kitchen appliances. Goodness!!! I have wanted one of these for like ever, and lately can't stop thinking about it. I even 'visit' one in a retail shop just to look. She is so pretty in that pink!

Anyway.  Back to the point.

Last night confirmed why I really need to bite the bullet and invest in a food processor. I toy with the idea usually once or twice a year.  You see, while I like the idea of cooking, I am hopeless with a knife.  As most cooking involves some degree of slicing or chopping I usually avoid it where possible.

Last night I decided to make the little savory risotto I like to cook from time to time. I manged to chop the Roma Tomatoes in half without incident for roasting in the oven. However while chopping the onion I managed to cut my finger. Now I usually cut myself while using a knife, no news story in this house, however last night it seemed like I could not stop the bleeding. Great.  I have managed to cut myself really deep, I need stitches it is almost 7:20 pm and various other thoughts started racing through my mind.... Anyway I wrapped my finger in loads of kitchen paper (the closest clean thing on hand) applied pressure kept it raised etc while Mr drove me the 1/2 hour one way back into town.

We were hoping to visit after hours doctor, however that was closed for reasons best known to said after hours doctor just for last night. So we decided to visit accident and emergency at a private hospital (please don't judge but I decided I was not sitting in the emergency section of the public hospital, too tired and pregnant to put up with THAT circus last night!). Anyway we registered with the nurse at accident and emergency, acknowledged it would cost $180 to see the doctor etc and waited.

After a while I peeked at my finger. It had stopped bleeding. Of course. I started to feel foolish. Of course there was a lot of blood, my heart is pumping a lot these days, my blood vessels are large and close to the surface etc. Sheepishly I wandered back over to the nurse and said "sorry to have wasted your time, but I think I just panicked. I will leave it and not see the doctor tonight thank you".

"Up to you" replied the nurse, 'your room is almost ready anyway'.  "thanks" I replied, however I will leave it,  see it has stopped bleeding now". "Let me see" the nurse stated.  "Where is it?" asked the nurse, searching for said cut. "Let me come and see it in better light". So we wandered over to the better light where nurse stated "umm. love. I think you will be fine with a  band aid on that".

Cringe.

Obviously I felt really dumb. I was very apologetic as we left.

So after coming 2 minutes away from paying $180 for a band aid I have decided I am going to purchase a food processor.  There are other reasons why food processors appeal to me such as the speed within which all the prep is done etc.

So this is where I need some assistance I have, probably foolishly,  decided if I am going to get one I am going to get a good one. I was thinking about the kitchen aid artisan or the magimix 4200. I have gone a bit off the kitchen aid food processor it seems the quality has gone from the manufacturing or that at least is the message from some of the reviews I have found. Where as the magimix is still made in France. I think?

I would really appreciate your time in letting me know what food processor you use and what are the pros and cons you have found?

Spoilt Rotten

So usually, at this time of the year, I am coming off a pressie/parcel high. What with christmas and my birthday (I turned 35 last week. 35! good grief,  how did THAT happen) I start wishing I was either wrapping or unwrapping pretty parcels.  I go through a  'absence of pressies' detox for the later part of January. Like I said usually...

Lookey what arrived for me today!  A lovely wrapped parcel together with a sweet note from the gorgeous Allana. Isn't she the sweetest!! You see she was sending me my winnings, A Dotty Dog!!!

It was such a thoughtful lovely surprise to receive this pretty parcel from Allana.  I knew my winnings were coming, however the sweet note and wrapping was surprising and very touching.

You can get your own Dotty Dog here! They are so lovely,  with that vintage twist that I adore. If you are in the hunt for a baby or child pressie they are perfect.

'Souvie'  is so lucky, I was fortunate enough to win a huge christmas giveaway hosted by Bron at Baby Space.

I love how this online community is filled with such lovely generous souls. Receiving the sweet note from Allana made me wander through the day with one of those smiles on my face that I am sure kept everyone wondering what I am up to!

Festive Season 2011 (& A Happy New Year!)

So I started the first half of this post before Christmas. Sigh.

One of my New Years Resolutions is to watch less TV and finish things I start. We will see how that goes.... Anyway, so this is now a combination Christmas and new year post!

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas spent with those nearest an dearest to you xox
Here is a little collection of images of what has been a very quiet festive season for us.

The tree, playing with Bokeh and cut out shapes! ha!

The gift wrapping this year so very very basic.
Red tissue paper, red and white twine, brown twine and Kraft paper.
The tags I made by running different christmasey words through the printer at random and then adding a little deer stamp with red ink.

Opening Christmas gifts (our yet to be born baby scored well in the pressie department, more about that later in the post), yummy lunch and nieces and nephews.

So that was Christmas, I cannot believe 2012 is already 2 days in!

As noted above, yes I am pregnant we are expecting our first child!!!

17 weeks pregnant to be exact! We have nicknamed it 'souvie' as we don't want to know the sex of the baby and don't want to call it 'it' all the time. Why souvie, well it was the little souvenir we did not realise we brought back from Cambodia.

2012 promises to make our dreams come true. I hope that, what ever your dreams are,  2012 is the year it all happens xox

ok, but don't tell Santa.

And so it begins.

Every year, around this time, I end up buying all sorts of little things for myself when I should be buying for others. All these little parcels start arriving in the mail, or some how end up in my arms after a wander through the shops/markets. I have no self control. Nothing extravagantly expensive mind you, just little things.  But still...
Last year I sheepishly handed over bag of said little things to Mr, and said I think I am done, just wrap these up... : ( (luckily he also purchased Mrs Greedy some lovely little surprises too)

I guess it occurs because while I really am looking for lovely thoughtful gifts for others, I just happen to find perfect said little things for me.

Anyway... recently some gorgeous fabrics from Cabbages and Roses arrived in a pretty little parcel. I am working on a few projects, using these gorgeous fabrics, which I will share soon.

I am off to look for  lovely gifts for others now  ; )  xox

Can a dress be too pretty?

 credit ~ image found here

No. What a silly question!!

If you love a pretty dress, me thinks you will like these new Fleur Wood dresses.

If you are lucky enough to live in Sydney or Melbourne you can apparently see the five beautiful bridesmaid dresses that Fleur has created.

Lucky ducks.

But who needs to be a bridesmaid, or the bride for that matter, to wear such a pretty dress like this?! I can't wait till my next trip over to the 'Big Island' to play dress up xox

A rose by any other name.

The peony "rose". It may only have a short season but it sure is a sweet one. Here are some snaps of my peonies that I took around my house the other week.

For fellow lovers of my most favourite flora,  the peony. You simply must check out Natasha's soft dreamy images of her peonies.  I know right,  how beautiful?! nuff said xox

October already?!

Is it just me or is this year flying by...

I have two gorgeous calendars filled with Amanda's gorgeous work; they have made it a joy to turn each page at the start of each month. You can find Amanda Cass and her beautiful whimsical work here.

Some of my favourites.

(excuse my photos they don't really do the colour and quality of the prints justice).

Tea & Sympathy

A recent purchase of mine; some gorgeous vintage clutter!
I adore the genius behind finding a new life for this pretty tea cup; sympathetically up-cycled into a gorgeous candle holder.

P.S How cute is the wrapping?! Vintage dress patterns, so soft like tissue paper.
