So I thought I would take some of this 'waiting for Souvie' downtime to share with you some of the projects we have been working on around here.
You might recall I purchased some gorgeous fabrics from Cabbages & Roses last year with a few projects in mind. As Cabbages & Roses have recently released a new international website, I thought it would be timely to share another project, this time using the Jolly Red Stripe fabric that we purchased.
This is the seat before we did any work on it.
Pretty rough and tired looking. We liked the delicate details of the wood frame and shape of the legs. We also loved the red. We did not like the stain of the wood frame or the tired velvet fabric.
So with these things in mind, Mr set about removing all the upholstery off the seat (and I mean all of it back to a wooden frame!). The seat had about a gazillion staples from the velvet fabric and old style upholstery nails from the original fabric that we found under the red velvet (I did take photos of these stages however cannot find them for the life of me today!).
We (Mr) then also sanded back the wooden frame and it revealed this lovely orange/rose hue to the wood. We decided to leave some parts with the darker stain and not to fuss to much with the sanding. I loved the different shades this created to the wooden frame in the end.
We applied a wood oil only to the wooden frame, no stain, as we were happy with the colour of the natural wood were we had sanded it right back. Finally we bustled it off to a local upholster with our gorgeous Cabbages & Roses fabric and instructions to rebuild the seat.
We are very happy with the end result.
Another Cabbages & Roses Project to share
